Every year, millions of items in our homes and businesses end up in landfills all over the planet. Small appliances, after their life cycle is complete, are just one of these types of items that can be utilized or repurposed to fulfill other needs. This article will first offer a short discussion on how repurposing (a facet of organizing) and the art of giving can correlate with saving our planet. Lastly, we illustrate just one small example of how a simple coffee maker can serve other multiple purposes long after its ability to produce hot delicious goodness!

As a personal example, the following illustration show how we effectively repurposed a broken coffee maker to serve as part of a decorative shelving unit (with the help of purchasing a couple of ornamental shelf brackets). All of the remaining parts (except the damaged heating element) were retained for part replacements of the new coffee maker of the same type. This not only saved us considerable cash, but it also reduced waste being placed in our landfills, as when things find a home other than a landfill, it too helps our planet!
